There's American Gods, but what about Chinese Gods? The book begins with the story of Zhou Yuan, an Internet worker, who has problems with his soul, and his friends Hao Ning and Liu Shuai, who try to save him. It tells the story of the evolution of the old and new gods and ordinary people, and how they "see themselves" through the comparison of their souls, their beliefs, their brains in the tank, their false images, their artificial intelligences, and their ship of Theseus. The purpose of this book is: "To write about the gods without the gods...".
